Dwight is the epitome of a guy who looks bad every time he opens his mouth. I bet that of all the NBA stars right now, he would score by far the lowest on an IQ test.
His hypocrisy makes him look even worse. From trying to get a cross in the NBA logo to having 6-8 kids each from different women in a matter of years

I don't even think that Dwight is really hated. He's just in a land of irrelevant big men in the NBA. The problem is, he tried to be alpha his whole career. Carrying that '09 Magic squad was impressive, but he hasn't done anything of significance since, except complain about his situation repeatedly. Well, unfortunately, that's life.
