They were there at the beginning of the end. Massive spoil banks retain plenty water.

Regardless, all these factors put together don't compare to not having annual flooding from the river. I don't see how the swamps could ever recover without it, but I bet one year of it would cause a massive reversal.

It's a shame that knocking down the levee would ruin so many jobs and destroy the states economy as we currently know it, because that levee is what's killing the state.
