It's also an important way to know what's important to us.
As a broad rule in society, we generally don't like seeing people die when we can avoid it. There's nothing wrong with people experiencing strong emotions when they see it happening.
Now, there's a very real discussion to be had about what we are giving up in order to give these people a better chance to live, and democrats are rightfully admonished when they attempt to shut down that conversation on the basis of emotion. But we likewise shouldn't outright ignore the emotions we feel in favor of numbers in a pure balance sheet approach.
