The damn big cat drill has absolutely nothing to do with the teams conditioning

Not defending anyone was just pointing out that Miles smash mouth philosophy wasn't a problem. And that the new offensive scheme is Canada's baby not necessarily Os. As far as you accusing O of not having any responsibility what exactly was Miles? Miles didn't call plays on offense or defense just like O. Saban doesn't call plays on either side of the ball neither do many coaches so I guess in your mind he has no identity either. Os identity is defense he's a Dline coach just like Miles was an Oline coach. There's more to being a head coach than calling plays, O coaches the Dline everyday he coaches special teams everyday among the dozens of other responsibilities a head coach has. He is involved in every area of the team. If you don't know what the job entails you shouldn't be commenting on it.

Get your facts straight before you post.
The great Nick Saban's LSU Tigers got beat by Alabama 31-0 in 2002, in Tiger Stadium. That was Nick's 4th year at LSU.
Guess we had better fans at that time because I don't remember people calling for Nick's job.

that was his 3rd year.
2000-2004 was saban. was that the bama team that started preseason #2 and unranked

We had beaten Bama, in Tiger Stadium, in 2000... and in 1969. We tied them in Tiger Stadium in 1985. All the rest in that period were losses. So- was losing to them at home shocking? I'd say nope.
quote:As you stated, that was his 4th season. He was coming off wins in 1999 and 2000.

edit to add- that was actually his third year, and he was 2-0 vs the Tide going in
In other words, he had shown decent success against a team that had historically dominated LSU. He was coaching an LSU team that was damn proud and excited to be back in Peach Bowl consideration, because our only recent bowls were Independence bowls under Dinardo, and even that was welcome after the Hallman nightmare.
He had a different context.
Orgeron on the other hand, got slaughtered by one of the write-in wins on our schedule. He ONLY got the job because we fired Miles, because we were offended that the team was sliding to Peach Bowl invite status, when we demanded a playoff bid, or at the least, one of the New Years bowls.
So, yeah, this is a worse loss. Losing by 30 to a team you expect to beat is worse than losing by 31 to a team you expect to lose to.

Expectations.
Miles was expected to win national titles. I would say contend, but he is mercilessly slaughtered for losing in the BCS Title game (and if you make the big game, you're clearly contending). Hell, I've seen more "LSU" fans than any other fanbase make fun of the fact that 2007 was a 2 loss champion. I don't see fans of other teams sneering about their own titles, especially not BCS games where the title is won on the field.
Miles scheduled some big OOC games, and the first time his team lost one (to Wisconsin, in Green Bay), his fate was sealed.
It's mind-boggling that a fanbase that would demand this, would then rush to excuse the disaster that was on display in Starkville. We had chances to beat both Auburn and Wisconsin last year, and both those teams would likely throttle that Miss St team that wiped the floor with us.
Why are we so suddenly accepting mediocrity from the new guy?

I'm of the opinion that Miles for a long time was a great coach, he just couldn't compete with Saban & could no longer have the talent gap for his outdated schemes. Even if people disagree that Miles was at one point a great coach, they can't deny he had a philosophy & was able to execute it from all aspects of leading a program.
What is O's philosophy?? O's never even called played besides a collosal failure at Ole Miss. His spoken philosophy to this point has been whatever in the hell his media moles think the people want to hear. His actual game philosophy is just a shittier version of Les's scheme. His recruiting philosophy has been a step down from the prior regime. No one knows how the hell he manages a program, because he's been utterly incompetent at it.

Miles team competed with and defeated top ten opponents on a yearly basis. His teams had a toughness that allowed them to beat Fla and Tebow. Orgeron' s team not seen it yet.

The dishonest legend of Les Miles continues. He was 1-3 vs Tim Tebow and sub .500 vs top 10 teams yet somehow the narrative is that he consistently beat these types of teams lol.

That's just not true but I've found almost every Miles apologist exaggerates nearly all of the things they say about him so not suprised to hear this.

C'mon man, I am no coach O fan. But Les found ways to lose that were mind blowing.

I'll touch on everything you said. First Miles exceeded pretty much everyone's expectations while at LSU. Sure he wasted a couple of all time great rosters but the guy won a ton of games and a national title so he deserves a lot of credit. I've said this multiple times in this thread but it doesn't seem to register so I'll say it again. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Miles style of play, it wasnt outdated and it wasn't old. The problem with Miles offense was a couple things, he started this thing where he had to pre approve every play on the call sheet before games and he started calling the checks to the QB during games. This basically neutered the OC and QB and made us completely predictable. As far as Os philosophy he never called plays at Ole Miss I don't know where you're getting that and saying he has no philosophy and Miles does because Miles has an offensive background is incorrect also. Os philosophy is to win the game at the line of scrimmage on both sides. Ppl bitched because Miles did nothing but run the ball so Ogeron brings in a more diverse OC to change that and now after getting the kind if OC everyone begged for you're attacking him for it which is typical. You say he doesn't recruit as well even though the data says you're wrong about that. Miles recruiting classes over the past 5 years, his best 5 combined BTW, have him averaging the 4th best class in the country. Those classes didn't turn out to be nearly as good as they promised to be because we've had a mass exodus of players with a large portion of them being the top guys in those classes. So while his classes maybe 4th on signing day by the time kickoff gets here they're more in the 15 range. Coach Os first class in a transition year was ranked from 5th to 7th so saying recruiting has dropped by levels is simply not true. It's funny the first 2 games when our freshmen were playing great the narrative was Miles recruited them then after Saturday when ppl started saying we aren't as talented as we thought we were the narrative changed to Ogeron can't recruit lol.
