Kaine was given the nod when the deal was struck to put DWS as the head of the DNC. This is how Hillary rigged the primary, thus allowing her to defeat Bernie. If not for the deal with Kaine Hillary would not have been the nominee.

I disagree completely. The leadership in the DNC was dead set on not allowing another Jimmy Carter to happen. While many look at it as the DNC leadership going above and beyond to make sure Hillary was the nominee, it was just as much to also keep Bernie out of that position.
