I said this after the scrimmage a few weeks ago...

quote:

I'm excited about Canada in the future, just not so much this season and that's mainly because I have no faith in Danny Etling to be much different than last season. I saw no evidence of improvement or his back being healthy causing markedly better arm strength last week. O tells you they opened up with an Etling to Chark bomb, they leave out Chark was wide the hell open and had to wait on the ball because noodle arm under threw it, the DB was nearly able to make a play on a ball he had no business being able to.

the OL situation is also troubling.

Etling is clearly not the problem! In fact, he's the best thing we've had in a while. Dropped passes, penalties and lack of preparedness are the issues. We can win big with Etling. We can't win with no OL protection and no DL penetration! Add on top of that injuries and youth and we have a tough road ahead if we don't at least fix the basics when in comes to OL and DL assignment football.

Etling makes too many mistakes when the play busts. Not necessarily TO mistakes but waiting half am hour to get rid of the ball, stepping up in tothe pocket (at least twice he had good protection then stepped up and it seemed like he forgot what to do).

He couldn't win the starting job at Purdue.

They had a three way race for the starting job at Purdue and Etling came in third.

I'm sure he's a nice guy but he's a mediocre QB at best and is not good enough to start for a team with any hopes of doing more than going to some random mid tier bowl.
