I don't understand frats. Let me pay a bunch of money on top of tuition to be part of a group that requires me to almost die of alcohol poisoning in order to join. Sure brotherhood and connections and all but still never even contemplated it.

i mean if you have the money and want to part of a brotherhood then why not? if you dont have the money or if money is an issue then yeah don't do it. You have to have priorities. Fraternities aren't for everyone and thats ok.

the money you pay for "friends" as people like to say is actually money being put forth towards funding events, live bands, pig roasts, halloween extravaganzas, 3 square meals served at the house everyday, insurance, t-shirts, exchange/weekly mixer budget, etc etc etc.

it's like consolidating your phone, tv, and wifi. instead of paying three different companies to provide you with a service, you pay only at&t and everything is guaranteed and bundled for low, low price of $2k-$5k/year.

The only people who go on and on about the brotherhood of fraternities are total dorks.

It's a social club. You pay a few grand a semester to hang out with dudes you like and pay for your house, your band parties, sometimes room and board, etc. It's pooling resources for like minded people. It happens during pretty significant coming of age years, so it is natural you'll form some lifelong friendships. But most people probably aren't in touch with 90% of their fraternity within 5 years of leaving.
