It sounds like yesterday Equifax decided to waive the fee to freeze your credit, but according to the NYT they have not said whether they would waive the charge to lift the freeze, something that you'd need to do to use your credit after you've frozen it.
It differs by state but in Louisiana
TransUnion, Experian and Equifax all charge $10 to freeze your credit and $8 each time you want to lift the freeze.
