Hillary is surrounded by people who reassure her how wonderful, smart, and courageous she is. They are too scared to be honest with her. Sadly, this includes the media.

The woman is a devoted follower of the guru of misinformation, distortion and lies, Saul Alinsky. What else would she claim to believe about Orwell's book?

Erasing political dissidents is something she has simply and expertly dominated.

If Hillary is a Star Wars fan, she cheers for the Empire.

I guess she missed the part where the guy delivering electric shocks was one of the party "leaders". From the ministry of truth if I recall correctly.
1984 is one of my favorite books, and I've never once thought of it as a call to trust government. I'm thankful every day that it was not, in fact, "her turn".

The worst part is that there are so many people in this country that think that way & still support her. So many people just begging for their own demise.

This book is like an after-the-fact "Mein Kampf".

Why are there so many Hillary Clinton topics here? Is she even relevant anymore? Even Trump has moved on from her.
She is the gift that keeps on giving. The OP was quoting HER recently released book.

More like a depleted uranium shell.
Which I guess, in a sense, is a huge bullet.

As strange as it seems, both the left and the right use 1984 to demonize opposing views. I read a piece on the Atlantic about high school teachers using the book to rebuke Trump.
As if Trump is an authoritarian communist. Which is what Orwell was writing about.

I took this to be addressed to Hillary.

It sounds more retarded than it does authoritarian. I mean just shite tier analysis with the sentence structure of an eighth grader writing a book report.

Yes, but only one side (Left) has almost all control of the media (90%+), academia (75%+), is obsessed with erasing the past (monument removals), is doing everything in it's power to restrain free speech (Berkeley, etc), and is obsessed with identity politics to divide the masses.

That's not really strange when you think about it. The book demonized established authority. Both sides would likely believe it's the opposing authority that needs to be overcome.
hillary's take is bizarre in that she seems to champion the established authority.

I don't find it so much bizarre as it is revealing.
This book of hers, thus far, has not disappointed. It's an absolute confirmation of what most of us already knew. This time the words are coming from her own mouth, and not just second-hand rumors. And there's little she can do to equivocate them, even if she cared to do so.

"Attempting to define reality is a core feature of authoritarianism," the former secretary of state wrote in her new book, "What Happened." "This is what the Soviets did when they erased political dissidents from historical photos. This is what happens in George Orwell's classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four when a torturer holds up four fingers and delivers electric shocks until his prisoner sees five fingers as ordered," she added.
So she opens the paragraph like this, clearly stating that defining reality and undermining objectivity is a "core feature" of authoritarian systems/leaders like the Soviets and the
government of Oceana in 1984. Clearly not an endorsement of unchecked government authority. She then, accurately but somewhat clumsily, goes on to point out that destroying alternative sources of information or authority, which could serve as a credible check to State power (in this case the Office of the President), is critical to this effort. And that includes delegitimizing institutions such as:
1. Media - Check
2. Polls (that you don't like) - Check
3. SMEs in a variety of fields from diplomacy and arms to science and medicine - Check
4. Other government leaders to include Congressional leadership, senior career officials, and one's own appointed leaders (McConnell, Ryan, McCain, DoS, The IC, the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General, etc) - Check
She's not arguing that the message of 1984 is to trust media and the government. She's saying that the story illustrates the importance totalitarian states place on abasing all competing centers of moral, intellectual, or actual authority. The idea that "I and my inner circle are the only ones you can trust" is classic totalitarian inception. Not saying Trump is actually IRL pursuing dictatorial authority, because he frankly doesn't know what to do with the powers he already has. But his entire public narrative fits that to a letter. Good thing most aren't buying this particular brand.

That's an eye opening line.
What a statist. The only correct thing in the line is last and and afterthought to her.
