i get it. Millions of Jews had been persecuted and we needed to put them someplace.
Why in the world would anyone think carving out a space of land where they were surrounded by their sworn enemies was a good idea? Since then it's been nothing but a huge cluster

rabbis were obsessed with Israel in the late 1800's.

My great grandfather was a Euro-rabbi who was into all that.

it wasn't trumans fault. the brits were there ,having won the area in the post WW I fiesta that the winners had at Ottoman Empire's expense.
Bulgaria. Romania. Greece, Albania. the entire coast of North Africa

it was all Ottoman and the Brits took parts and parts, the Christian regions, became nations.

Because hundreds of thousands were already there and Truman didn't want them here.
