Yes he did. He said, verbatim, "there were very fine people on both sides." Google a transcript of his remarks or watch it yourself on YouTube. You can argue over whether or not he was making a legitimate point, but you can't dispute what he said.

He actually said "many sides," but you are correct otherwise. Apparently that line wasn't in the original drafted statement and he ad-libbed it.

Well, I certainly disagree with Trump on this one. I'm sure many of the people on the right were 'very fine people' but all of the leftists were scum and should have at least been tear gassed. Maybe he was just trying to be diplomatic.
