And recommendations on a home weather station. I have this one and it has been for temps and wind speeds but finally died about a month ago. Looking to replace it.

Any recommendations for something with PC connect or better display

If you don't wanna spend much, get an Acu-rite 5 in 1 with lightning detector and hd display.

Following. My wife is a weather freak. Got her a weather radio for her birthday and I'm considering a weather station for Christmas.

I will also add, you will inevitably hear about bloomsky.. don't do it. They use a cloud, so instead of your data going from station to display to internet it goes from station to cloud to display app. Their cloud is extremely unreliable, and customer service is non-existent.

The one I have had worked good. I have the display sitting on my desk. I have used it for moon phase, temp, wind and pressure for the most part. Id like to be able to connect it to my Mac and use an app so I can get the info remotely. Don't know how much I need that but I would like it.

Also being able to track the pressure over a few weeks or a months period would be cool for my job.

Price is not as big a issue for me as getting one with all the features and is a quality unit. I dont want to spend $500 but $300 or so is fine

a weather radio

My only problem with that, every time there was a tornado warning anywhere in Ark. the alarm goes off. At 2-3 o'clock in the morning and a possible twister a 150 miles from my house was just a little too much. It's probably been 20 years since I last used a weather radio so maybe the service has been able to pinpoint their alerts a little better.

Radios now have ability to only send you advisories for your area.

I have been wanting one for years but want to be able to access it remotely and have it log data.

Does this do that?

Yeah, I get notified by telephone now and their warnings are pretty spot on.

Yes, the acurite website and app both log data and give remote access if you buy the internet bridge LINK

It also connects to wunderground.com and certain 3rd party apps.

I do not think that unit can be accessed remotely.

$215 with free shipping. Didnt check Amazon

ETA: Amazon is $219 with prime.

This is the dual sensor version. You can put a couple sensors inside to monitor your AC I guess. There is a single sensor version of this for $149...

Davis is a good one, my ambient weather unit has a bad humidity sensor after 14 months of use, the hail storm may have had something to do with it though.

I have an acurite. I have it hooked up to Wunderground. It works ok...not perfect.

Two issues I have with it:

1. Barometric pressure spikes for no reason at all...one data point but it skews the data and for trending I have to manually remove that data point. It's done that several days.

2. The software sucks. It will constantly drop out. Lately it's been solid but early on...I'd get email notifications that my computer hadn't received a packet from it for 2 hours.

Acu-Rite is good for the novice/beginner amateur weather station. However LaCrosse makes some good ones. Davis is high end but nice.

Here's an idea of what else is out there.

Also, I'll eventually upgrade because I'd rather report to the CWOP via my APRS/Ham radio than computer...that way I don't have to worry about internet connections going down at my house.

This and temperature spikes are why I left acurite, but for someone who just wants to monitor it isn't bad.

That's the unit I have. The only issues I've seen are what I've talked about. Otherwise it's been good.

I noticed it states that the update is every 16 seconds. Does that count for wind speed as well?

Temp has been spot on...but the barometric pressure spikes are ridiculous. During the eclipse I had my telescope set up right next to my weather station....later trended the data to match up with the eclipse. Was pretty awesome to see how the temp dropped with the phases of the eclipse.

But I'm a data guy/engineer...so there's that problem too.
