British billionaire and adventurer Sir Richard Branson will stay on his private Caribbean island, Necker, for the potentially devastating arrival of Hurricane Irma, the founder of the Virgin group of companies said on Tuesday.

Recalling seeing two powerful hurricanes, Earl and Otto, strike the British Virgin Islands in 2010, Branson said he had beheld nature "at its most ferocious."

Otto was barely a Category 1 and Earl was a 2/3 when it hit his island. He's in for a rude awakening.

And Otto was hundreds of miles away as a Tropical Depression when it was closest to the Virgin islands, so that could be a clue that maybe a small island is not a safe spot if Otto was memorable.

Earl had about 110 mph winds when it hit Virgin islands, so basically it's taking Earl and adding another hurricane's worth of winds. Good luck with that one.
