Get you a shiner pole with a cork. Cast out and let it sit.
This was phase two, just pick a depth?
It's better to fish above them than below. I would rig multiple hooks about 2 feet apart until you find a pattern.

about 2 acres of it range from 12-14ft, I believe I was jigging at about 6 ft when I hooked them but it was hard to tell with the wind and us using light jigs
