That has absolutely no effect on the fact that they are overpaid.
What criteria are you using to determine that they are overpaid? Please be specific.

quote:Nope! What you can have is regulated.
The OT constitution must start with the 2nd amendment. Talk about guns and it's your right to have whatever you want,
More importantly is guns are not allowed in some areas as dictated by the owners.
quote:Just as the carrying of guns is regulated by the owners of the property so is free speech.
mention free speech and all of a sudden the NFL should take away their players rights.
Don't think so? Just scream FIRE in a crowed arena.

But the hypocritical policemen will turn around and work the game for overtime pay. I question their commitment to the cause.
Shut it down. If police refuse to work there will be no game. Money talks louder than self righteous jestures.

What could go wrong when we arent allowed to freely discuss ideas?
Also I giggle a little bit if you are comparing yelling fire in a theatre to people kneeling during the anthem. (Not sure if you are btw).

Someone else countered.
I pointed out how his counter had no backing.
quote:My thoughts?
Please be specific.
There are many positions where people are overpaid IMO.
Specifically CEOs, actors, some sports figures.
Why? They earn more per hour than people that actually work for a living producing something people can use.
HOWEVER, any person is worth whatever the the job they take and settle for.
So I countered my own thoughts on the issue.

The Browns issued a statement saying they support both the anthem and the right of individuals to choose not to stand for the anthem.
This all day, every day. The Browns' response was spot on.

Perhaps better is this site.
What we say is limited by the site owner.

I enjoy the fact that you think an associaition of some of the best businessmen in the world are overpaying these athletes for no apparent reason.
Maybe, just maybe, like actors quality talent is actually really valuable. These athletes generate an insane amount of money, why shouldn't they get a significant portion of that?

The NFL allows them to not support America, but still heavily profit off of Americans. Easy fix is to stop giving the NFL tax breaks
Allowing someone to express their views, even if that speech is viewed by others as "anti-American" is a VERY AMERICAN thing to do.

The backing is the free market. If there were 838483882 people capable of doing what Tom Brady does, he would be making 50k. The owners can try to favoid be cheaper labor, but they haven't found a cheaper solution yet.

Likewise the cops have the right to make their statement if their management allows.
They are on overtime. Their department has little to say.
The Brown's pay them. That makes them the boss.
Management pisses off cops by mandating they participate and the cops have the right to leave.

It's crazy how this boards seems to think you can't (or shouldn't) support all of (a) the anthem, (b) the police officers, and (c) the right of the players to express their opinion.

But the people "working for a living" (and I take exception to that phrase) are easily replaceable. The replacement value of the blue collar guy that pushes the button that makes the machine bend the sheet metal is nearly zero. Almost anyone has the capacity to do that job. So while he may be physically pushing the button that makes the product that is eventually sold; that act takes almost no skill and nearly every person on the Earth is qualified for it. Now compare it to the replacement value of the CEO that runs the company. He's ultimately responsible for implementing the course of action to make better, more valuable products, finding the people necessary to create those products, and making sure the product is made and sold for profit. His replacement value is incredibly high. There are but a handful of people that can do that job. And because that supply of labor is so low, they can demand high wages.
It's the same with professional athletes. There is only one person on the planet that can do what Lebron James does. There are maybe four or five on the planet that can do with Drew Brees does. And Brees' employment is an enormous catalyst for economic activity through the city and the state. His play is intrinsically tied to thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in the New Orleans region. So when he demands $13 million in 2017, the Saints have to seriously weigh the economic consequences to the franchise and the city if he were to walk away. The Saints make money off of Brees even after paying the $13 million; they're still in the black.
If the guy that serves hotdogs in the Superdome demands a $2 increase in pay for the 2017, it's an easy denial. He can be replaced by anyone with the ability to walk, scream "hotdogs," and do basic math - which is almost everyone on the planet.
Athletes in general aren't overpaid. The are paid based on their replacement value.

Your point that
quote:doesn't apply to
The owners have a right to pay them less if they don't think the players are worth what they offer.
quote:People having the opinion and the owner's rights aren't connected.
Why do people think football players are overpaid?
I'm just having a little fun here so don't get upset.
Your post got it's point across and I agree with the rights.
I think the market is stupid but the owners have to pay to compete.

Similarly, take a mediocre movie and slap the name Leonardo DiCaprio on it and the revenue goes way up. This even though acting "doesn't produce anything," he has a talent and a name that are nearly impossible to replace. Thus he is worth millions.

Oh, WOW!!! Two many details in there to go over and we are already thread stealing.
There are soooo many jobs out there to compare.
Ever hear of Mike Rowe (sp?)?
He has a few to tell you about.
Some people think I was overpaid when I was in the military. It's an opinion.
I disagree with your first sentence based on my opinion while totally agreeing with your second.

So the police department is using the national anthem to protest the players using the national anthem to protest?
