I don't want to get too far into this, but I'll just say Christianity in a way requires suffering. If you look at the life of Jesus, His actions and his words were asking things of people that were not easy. When you raise the standards people live by, there will be backlash. Also, doing the righteous thing or the holy thing is usually not the most satisfying thing.

There's also the opposite end of prosperity gospel, poverty gospel. People who feel you can only be close to God if you're suffering and/or poor, which is also a false doctrine. Solomon talked about it in Ecclesiastes. He knew great wealth, he knew poverty, good health, sickness, and he called it all vanity when compared to striving after God. So you can have wealth or you can be poor, but if you're not seeking God, it's all pointless.
