Whether we play the game or not, the contract calls for LSU to get paid $4 million. The company that runs NRG also runs the Superdome.

Not completely true. The contract states that ESPN has to make "reasonable efforts" to try and get the game played. However, if the game is cancelled due to weather and "reasonable efforts" are made to try and get it played and didn't work out, then ESPN does not have to pay the $4 million, and LSU/BYU get nothing.
