He was undisputedly a talent that appealed to many. I had nothing against him personally, but never found him funny.

Same here. His style in the movies was a mix of slapstick and clownishness. It went over very well in France. I didn't find the 3 Stooges funny for the same reason. For slapstick to work you really need to have animals.

That is me completely - I always thought he was just silly.

Sorry to see him go - his MDA efforts were very praiseworthy.
