Go to any public school and pick out a 7th grade Social Studies book. That's the only book most will "read" regarding US and world history....where kids see 1 page on George Washington and 4 on Gloria Steinem.
I teach 12th grade world history and this is completely accurate, but I don't teach from the book either :) I pick and choose what I teach and it is from a right wing view I can promise you that. I must be doing something right because my students always make it to the state literary rally and do really well. I had a student ask me one time "why don't I teach about the civil rights?" I just replied, the world dosn't care about the civil rights movement in the U.S.
