Actually buying a pressure washer is a waste for most people IMO. Quality gas washers are expensive and need to be used and maintained regularly. Like just about anything else with a gas engine, using it once and putting it up for two years is a good way to significantly shorten its lifespan. But most residential users really don't have enough pressure washing needs cropping up fast enough to warrant consistent use and maintenance, so the washers just rot.

IMO renting is the better option.

Electrics in the $100-$200 range fall somewhere between a garden hose and a good gas washer. I think they're worth owning if you'll get a few uses out of it per year. Worst case scenario is it only lasts a few uses anyway, in which case you probably broke even with renting a washer a few times in its place.

A badass pressure washer gives you motivation to clean the hell out of stuff that's already pretty clean

I bought a gas powered washer for $275. It costs $50 a day to rent one. That's ~5 days of use to break even.

I just make sure I use ethanol free gas, and there is literally no maintenance.
