It is largely a myth that teams "improve the most" from game 1 to game 2.
Did Georgia look better vs nicholls state than they did vs North Carolina last year?
I think LSU was CLEARLY the better team over Virginia Tech in 2002 (I think that was the year), and for most matchups we would have won.
I think we win a season opener for both teams, I think we win a bowl game, and I think we win a midseason game.
Saban was furious that Beamer was able to get us roped into opening our season on the road against them, and then scheduling a cupcake the week before to work out the kinks. Our defense played well, but there was a lot of early misfires and rust on offense. They didn't have those misfires, and VT beat us pretty solidly.
Look at last season, and forget about the coaching staff change. Against Wisky, LSU was trying to figure out how to integrate both Fournette and Guice into the game at the same time. We saw some plays early that just didn't work at all. Chark hadn't moved up in the lineup yet.
Let LSU play a Sunbelt team the week before, and I'm pretty sure we move and score more vs Wisky. Probably win.
