Yeah. I know that pain!! Very sudden onset. I had already had my gallbladder out 1 year prior, but apparently there can be delayed stones.
BCBSTX was very good. The totals for me were 185k. That was treatment for bile duct stones, ercp surgery, 6 days in one admit, stint removal day surgery, day surgery for a biopsy of my insides (female), pet scan, ct scan, major radical abdominal surgery (female again) hospital stay, tons of bloodwork and follow ups. Tack on wrist surgery and an upper gi endoscopy.
One kicker, we were at Md Anderson preparing for the biggest surgery of my life and my husband gets upper abdominal pain at noon day before. Drops him like a rock. I have never been to ER with him, ever. Man does not believe in illness ????. So we end up at memorial Herman and guess who has a gallbladder full of gallstones? Thankfully they fixed him up and we waited a month to remove his gallbladder. His bills came out to about 16k. So total 201,000 in just 3 months at my house.

I believe you can only get individual plans on the open market during open enrollment.
There is an exception for change of employment.

Insurance that qualifies for the minimum essential coverage under the ACA cannot be purchased year-round. Instead, one can only buy individual health insurance during an open enrollment period or if there is a qualifying life event or change in employment.
OP may be able to find short term gap insurance of some sort.
Haven't had this issue in some time, last time I switched, there was no gap, switched mid month, one day Company A, next Company B. A's insurance ran through end of month, B's picked up 1st of next month. Previous time was pre ACA. Had the 90 day Cobra fall back then(that is older than ACA), Just waited it out ready to sign up if needed
