Hetfield's vocals were still a bit too raw and unpolished for my liking on Ride the Lightning. Remember, he was never intended to be the vocalist when the band was originally formed.
As controversial as it can be in metal, everything sounds so much crisper and clearer on Master of Puppets.
Plus, Master of Puppets has arguably the greatest instrumental track in metal: "Orion".

There isn't a bad song on either album but ride the lightning was more ground breaking. There had never really been an album released like that before. Metallica revolutionized rock as we know it partly because of the power they were getting out of better amps in the 80s
