5 nights in Paris or Rome

Both are same price. We did Florence, Venice, Milan and Montecatini last year and loved it (how can you not). The SO wants to go back extremely bad, and I would love to do Rome as well. What are the pros and cons of both? Dont know too much about Paris other than the big name places...Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc. Which one would you choose?

If you have never done either, that makes it tough. Both are a must do at least once. If I was choosing to return to one over the other, I would hands down choose Paris. We rented an Air BnB there for 7-8 days and absolutely loved it. Both are great. I just prefer Paris over Rome.

Paris. With the Metro it's a really fun place to explore.

When? Rome is hot as blue blazes in the summer.
I love Italy so Rome would probably be my choice.

Paris-I can give you a list of other things to do besides the tourist items-like go to Ru Clur or Ru Cler street (sp??), find a café, drink and people watch-explore the markets on the street, eat as many macaroons you can!

By the way, great prices on package flight and hotel deals on trippirates.com right now for week of Mardi Gras-we are looking to go from Sat to Thrs staying at Marriot on the Champs ELys.

Agree with Paris. Rue cler is a great place to hang out and watch the locals shop eat and commingle. Rome is a fantastic city; but, Paris is the greatest city in terms of atmosphere, architecture, food, arts, wandering about. Latin quarter, jewish quarter, champs de elysse, left bank, right bank, st sulspice, bakeries every block, jabon, wine...........on and on. Impossible to be bored in paris. Paris gets hot too in the summer. Rome gets hotter in the summer. Have fun.

Either of these will be in either late February or mid March. Does that change anything?

Just booked to Paris. Now to plan...

I adore Rome, but I'm an art history nerd....no other place on earth has such a concentration of great works. Throw in pizza bianca, suppli, and lots of Roman ruins, and I'm a happy person....but Rome isn't everyone's cup of tea. The centro storico is absolutely overrun with tourists, it's getting harder to find "real" Roman food, and the city is often perceived as dirty & graffiti laden (it's really old). The Italians are warm & friendly.
Paris is a whole other creature....pretty, esp in spring when the chestnut trees are blooming, and it feels tidier & more prosperous than central Rome. It is larger, with more diverse sights, but it is a more formal place, and the French aren't nearly as warm/welcoming as Italians (to the average Americans). If you haven't booked a hotel, consider staying in the Sentier neighborhood around the rue Montorgeuil, a pedestrian market street filled with food shops: boulangerie, Boucherie, epicerie, patisserie, etc.
I'm headed to Paris myself this fall, staying in St Germain.

the main thing it came down to is we just did Italy in February so wanted to see something new. $1234 for two for 5 nights air and hotel included out of Atlanta.

Great price....good score. Where is the hotel located?

It is the timhotel berthier. I will likely do what I did in Italy and book a couple nights at a nicer place, but it looks more than fine for me and the gf

It's in an interesting area: Batignolles...very Algerian-meets-hipster.

Any tips on a hotel with with the Eiffel Tower view for two nights would be appreciated. Looked a little online but would love some personal experience.
