Since when does a player and his father dictate where, when and if a player plays? This is concerning on several levels...
“The offense loves him. I think he’s going to fit in well. He and his father are happy,” the coach said. “He always has the option to go back to safety if he doesn’t feel that he’s getting what he wants at receiver.”
You are reading too much into the comment I think. Naturally a parent might be concerned. Especially when you recruit a top talent to come to your school, lay out a plan, vision, and position to him and his parents on how he will be used. In spring and summer workouts, the kid does well at the position he was recruited for, and then all of a sudden you change that plan and position in the falI. I definitely think O handled it right be talking to him and his parent, and giving him the option. He presented him one thing and plan in recruiting and during spring and summer workouts, but later saw opportunity for him at receiver (at least temporarily). Looks like O was straight forward with him and dad, and gave him opportunity to move back to original position if he wants. No problem with it at all.

Way too much over analyzing on this site from those brief comments. Well said above. Why wouldn't O touch base with the player and parent on comfort level and acceptance of moving positions. O knows what's going on. This place will build a mountain from an ant hill in two seconds.
