Yes, but the soldier didn't know that, he thought the old man would look at him because they had failed.
The British public was glad, but the soldiers didn't realize that, they thought they were failures because they were pushed off the continent and had to have civilians rescue them.

That's absurd. So all of classic silent movies are considered "not worth watching"? LOL...okay. So much for blind people as well.
