my glass Dobyn's crainkbait rod
Are you happy with the glass? Seems like one of the bigger pissing matches on bass fishing forums. Some guys swear by it and others say its obsolete with graphite available in moderate actions now. At some point I'll be looking to get a dedicated deep cranking rod and I go back and forth between the glass dobyns, st croixs new glass rod, or graphite cranking rods in the same range. For 250 I cant really afford to hate it after it's bought.

Just like with certain fishing lines, they have their place. Definitely not obsolete in my opinion. But if extreme sensitivity is what you're looking for, graphite has the edge. I still use some glass rods for moving baits and topwater.

This would specifically be for crankbaits 10ft and deeper. I keep hearing about the difference in sensitivity and that's a concern, but on the other hand everywhere I fish it's just typical mud bottom. I'm not using the crankbait to find gravel or shite like that, but the occasional stump would be nice to detect. Guess I don't have a good understanding of just how much sensitivity I'd lose going to glass.

Not enough to justify one over the other for deep cranking. You'll still feel stumps and other stuff. And it's not like dead sticking a bait where you're trying to detect even the slightest bite. From my experience, a glass rod works just fine for deep cranking.

Thanks, all I'd really want is a reasonable idea of what's down there structure wise.

Lews reels with Lews, Duckett and Dobyns rods.
I see a couple guys are using Carrot Stick rods. Have they improved and does anybody recommend them?
