The wife and I are planning a trip to southern Colorado the first week of October. Any recommendatiins of things to see and do?
On our radar so far is to stay in the Colorado Springs area and see Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, Seven Waterfalls area, and the Royal Gorge, Then head to Durango for the train ride to Silverton and back. Then Mesa Verde. We thought about camping in the Gunnison area but temps can drop into the 20s at night so we nixed that idea.
We are in our early 60s so strenuous hiking, biking, etc. is not an option. Just looking for scenery, picturesque drives, attractions, etc.
Thanks in advance.

I'd head even further north from Durango to see Telluride and Ouray, the San Juan's are awesome.

Crowded and overrated IMO. Also a long drive from southern Colorado

The Black Canyon is fricking freezing at night so good call there
To me any south Colorado trip should include Telluride. Camping there would be an option for sure. There are some awesome 4x4 trails, easy to moderate hikes, waterfalls, shopping and eating in town, and plenty of other stuff. One of the best mountain towns you will find anywhere

Go to Ouray. Rent a Jeep. Take on some trails. Beautiful scenery.
The train ride had great views also. Going to be cold!

Taos is an awesome stop before heading into Colorado if you are driving through NM.
As for southern CO, Telluride and Durango is what ya what.
