The best way is the way a New Zealand DC 10 flight in Antarctica ended - it just ran into an obscured mountain. No passenger had a clue.
The worst way would be like the JAL airliner passengers where they all knew the plane was going to crash catastrophically, but the plane remained airborne in a yaw and roll for a lengthy period of time.
They even wrote goodbye letters to their loved ones.
