One a lot of people don't know or were too young for:
WEEK 1 1978
Saints 31
Vikings 24
That was one of the first games I vividly remember. The Vikings were still a powerhouse but at the very end of their run. The Saints didn't have a prayer. It was Dick Nolan's first game. They got their asses kicked by the 0-26 Bucs at the end of the previous season.
The Saints never trailed in the game. It was unbelievable. The Vikings were driving to tie the game at 24 in the 4th quarter when Tom Myers picked off Fran Tarkenton and had a 98-yard pick-six. It was the first time I saw my dad screaming for happiness at a sports game. I was screaming with him. It was great.
Until that game, the Saints had won exactly one week 1 game in their history. It was also only the second time in Saints history that they were ever over .500. The only other time was their other week 1 win.
