Yep, every dad in the city thinks their kid is going to play at LSU or the majors. It is getting ridiculous! $2500 for summer is baseball is accurate. And they play all the time. That money doesn't include the tourney travel expenses. Yes that is right. 8 year olds travel all over the south to play games.

Yeah, spend $100,000 shuttling your kid all over the place playing baseball and then he gets a scholarship worth $40,000 total over four years.

The sad part is that some parents spend $2500 per year in Lotto tickets. I guess that they hope they develop the next Bryce Harper or Alex Lange.

Not at all. But if your kid has any talent at all and you want him against decent competition, travel ball is the only option these days. As unfortunate as it is.
Mine didn't start until he was 11, however.
ETA: our team plays March through June. Don't lump all USSSA teams into the same group.

Question for travel baseball parents: how do you balance work and traveling every Thursday/Friday through Sunday. Do you just completely shut down your other kids and their activities?
