It really is one of the first awful moves in a complete snowball effect that got out of control.

Zach Lowe and friends were talking about what went wrong with the Knicks these past several years and they traced everything back to the crazy stupid trade of a 1st and 2nd for Bargniani. The shift/depletion of assets for such a failed move caused ripple effects that lead to even worse moves like signing Noah. That's part of why I think we can't give up a first to dump Asik. Stretch him if you need to but don't give up more than a 2nd to undo your mistake. Trying to undo mistakes just makes things worse. Take the lumps and move on.

I wonder if I'm being shortsighted about that though because this team will be in the tax if AD/DC work out. Cleveland is about to pay $14 million for Derrick Rose even though his salary would be $2.5 million. They are in the repeater tax, but if AD/DC works out the Pels will hopefully become a repeater tax team. What's more valuable to the team long term, using the 2018 pick to acquire players of using it to not be paying $15 million a year for Omer Asik 5 years from now?

depends what's more important to benson in the last leg of his life, money or improving the team

I think that's what it comes down to.
