Health insurance vs. Health care & BamaATL

I do not have health insurance but am able to go to the doctor. How is this possible if health insurance is the same as health care OR access to health care?
Also...random poll: Is BamaATL male or female (assuming those are the only 2 choices)? I say female.

What kind of doctor do you see? Do you see him/her on a regular basis? Do you pay anything out of pocket?

Doctors don't care who gives them money.

If you have a heart attack can we just let you die .....you know.....since you don't have health insurance? You can't afford a self-pay heart attack.

I see an internist once per year or as needed. Of course I pay for it. I let them know I am a cash paying patient and my rate is negotiated upfront.
For major catastrophes I use a medical sharing program. I have been hospitalized once for 3 days. MSP worked great in that situation. Unfortunately, even those costs have gone up due to the COST OF CARE, not the cost of insurance (as has been discussed here many times).

You are what we call Self Pay. Hard as it is to imagine, there are people who actually pay for their own health care needs. I know... the fact floored me as well.
BamaAtl and her ilk would seek to outlaw such practices. What you don't realize is that they are smarter than you and you are simply too stupid to know that would be better off with Obamacare.

Tons of those around. They project whether or not they will get "sick" and do the math.
Better hope they don't have a catastrophic issue however.

Lol.. bullshite. I have a friend who rolled the dice. Has a stroke. Made a full recovery. Guess what... the hospital treated him and everything. Is it ideal? No. But he didn't die, wasn't left for dead, got the same level of care as if he had a Cadillac plan and negotiated monthly payments for basically the rest of his life. It's stupid. But it's his choice. One he wouldn't make again, but had the freedom to make.

Health insurance only turns into health care if you can afford the deductible. Average ACA deductible in Jackson MS was over 5 grand.
ACA turned a bunch of people into a political statistic, while also making people who paid for private plans less likely to get care themselves.
No one is denied emergency care by the way, insured or not.

You say this like it is a bad thing. I do not understand why we think everyone has a right to have their lives prolonged and how dying is a bad thing.
If someone chooses to not have insurance yet has the means to, they will suffer the fate they chose.
If someone cannot afford health insurance, it is the hand they were dealt. May they enjoy the afterlife, because life is just not fair.
I am a believer of there is something after our life on this planet.

So you believe there has never been someone with a heart attack go to the ER without insurance and survive? Amazing.

Hopefully you never break a leg. Are medical bills discharged in bankruptcy?

Just because you are covered through the ACA doesn't mean you can afford one. You would still pay thousands up front, after paying as low as $20/month because that's all you can afford apparently, then find out the government covered half of your enormous bill after X dollars. Still either bankrupt or on a 30 yr payment plan.
If you have 5k lying around you probably could have afforded insurance before the ACA. It's up to you what you do with your money

Sounds like he couldn't afford it after all.

I'd venture to say that nobody can ever actually afford to have a heart attack. I don't care how much insurance you have or don't have. Or how much money you have or don't have.

This is the shittiest of philosophies and I'm glad it's only shared by a tiny part of the population.

Well, they treated him. He didn't die. And worked out a payment plan. So yeah, he actually could afford it. Just not easily. By the way, I think he was stupid. But it was his choice to be stupid. He owns a small trucking company. His response was that he'd either have to generate more business or start driving one of the trucks on his own. Didn't seem all that worried and would try to have it paid off with a few years.
And be the first one in line to sign up for insurance in December when open enrollment starts.

If you can afford a semi-luxury vehicle, you can afford a self-pay heart attack pretty easily. My father in law way over paid for a CABG even after I told him how much to offer.
