If you don't like it, move.
I have no problem with states doing whatever they want to raise revenue, so long as it's constitutional.
If the hippies don't like living in a revenue draining burdensome shithole, they'll move. More likely, they'll bitch to their hippie friends and continue leeching from the ever-shrinking pool of givers.

I don't live there. I just saw the story and thought it was fascinating. The hippies had no problem with a new gas tax but when the state democrats came up with a new way to make money by taxing Oregons large cycling community they started crying
