If I recall, Sanderson doesn't really care for the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, as it's far more graphic than he likes to get (being the good Mormon that he his).
Basically, Sanderson would be a poor choice to finish the series.

i can see that - sanderson is a very different style author (i haven't read much from him yet though). I am immensely grateful for him providing a quality ending to the Wheel of Time Series, which suffered with Robert Jordan's deteriorating health and eventual death.
Luckily, RJ had left tons of outlines, notes and said he had the final portion of the book in his head for 20ish years. His wife helped edit and finish up the series after he passed.
