Blakeney shot nearly 36% from three his sophomore year of college. By comparison Stephen Curry shot 38% his junior year at Davidson, Klay Thompson shot 36% his sophomore year at Washington State,CJ McCollum shot 34% his junior year at Lehigh, and Damian Lillard shot 34% his sophomore year at Weber State.

All that stat looking up is worthless. Name another player on Curry's team at Davidson, or Lillard for Weber State, or McCullum at Lehigh. Those dudes had Box and 1 defenses thrown at them. Over half of their 3-point attempts were from NBA range because that was the only way they could get a clean look. On top of that, they were asked to shoot 25 times a game.

Name another player on LSU's team last year that has a shot of playing in the NBA. Blakeney took nearly twice as many shots as the next highest scoring guard on the team in Brandon Sampson

You posted these in January of 2016

People who can't see Blakeney's immense upside are beyond ignorant. Plays amazing D and he is highly explosive and has a good stroke. His jumpshot has not been falling ever since the Thanksgiving week games, but its a pretty stroke.

quote:

I'm not saying he doesn't need to produce more, but he's hardly a dime a dozen. He's 6'3-6'4 with a 45 inch vertical. He was a top 20 player coming out of HS, so hundreds of scouts and analysts saw him and thought he was so elite he was projected 1st round going into the season. Obviously he has not performed great, but people still saw SOMETHING special in the kid.

This is such a dumb fricking thread. It's cool to hate on highly rated players that struggle to transition to the college game at LSU...this board does it with every sport.

But here's the thing, he's playing good D, takes open jumpers, runs the offense like it is supposed to. Literally all that is happening is he's missing some jumpers so everybody is passing on this guy.

I'm sick of it. The kid is an ELITE athlete, and he came in with a good jumper. He's gone through a prolonged slump. Look at the beginning of the year when he dropped upper teens and 20-pointers...he can shoot. He's gotten soooooo much shite on this website and from our fan base. No one, including Tone, thought he would struggle. Imagine when you were 19, could you handle your 'fans' shitting on you? He's put his head down despite all the distractions and come to play.

quote:

And he was a top 20, so therefore his potential is very high. This thread is getting off track. It's about his NBA potential, therefore his athleticism, vertical, size, everything comes into play.

He was clearly a better player as a Sophomore. What turned you against him?

It's not like Blakeney took clean and efficient shots playing in a Johnny Jones offense with zero other NBA players...Nobody is saying he is those players, but there's reason to believe he could shoot a better percentage in the league.
