She was serving them food. HIV damages the immune system, making the children more susceptible to illness, like the kind you might get when served food that hasn't been properly cooked or handled. The gloves are for the kids protection, not for hers.

All of this. AIDS or Acquired Immonodeficiency Syndrome attacks the immune system. The gloves aren't to prevent her from getting aids, Its to prevent children with weakened immune systems from getting sick because she has some bacteria on her hands.
