Prepare yourself and the mother for a Child Protective Services investigation.

Seriously. Small ones like your tough boy rarely get actual broken bones so the parents almost always get investigated.(small little kids bones are really soft and flexible, takes a lot to break them) And the investigators are like IRS Auditors, their job is to find something, anything. They generally will not stop looking until they have something negative to report back.
