There's no projection here. There is the undisputable fact that $15 billion dollars of other peoples tax dollars was spent on empty calories that contribute to a terrible epidemic of obesity and diabetes. This is not okay.

I have no problem with kids having a good time, but it shouldn't come from a social safety net program whose sole purpose is to prevent those in poverty from going hungry.

I get that it's not a perfect system, and have called out a few times that it's not the point I'm arguing...

but I do think that a lot of people get real damn carried away from seeing a single person or hearing an anecdotal story and project a whole lot of feelings.

Do you really genuinely care if two kids living in poverty got to tailgate at a ragin Cajun football game with a case of coke, some chips and dip, and a couple cup cakes, to use the example here? And is it really turning you inside out if she used her purchase card for that and cash for dinner a different night instead of flipping the purchases around?

What tax rate grants you the right to buy a soda?

For SNAP shoppers, “sweetened beverages,” “prepared desserts,” “salty snacks,” “candy,” and “sugar” accounted for 22.6 percent of purchases. These junk food items thus accounted for $15 billion of SNAP purchases in 2016, if the study is representative of all SNAP purchases.

That's not anecdotal, chief. That's fact. Why are libs constantly confused by this?
