Don't pay, a little office drama helps liven the day up.

Once the food is left out for all to eat, it's no longer part of the event. You didn't attend the event, you are under no obligation to pay for it.

I would be pissed to get an email like that if I was the guy on vacation. frick that lady.

The OP with the Jew SN (clue, perhaps?) could approach the lady and say:

Eli: "Surely co-worker X, who was on vacation and did not participate is not expected to pay, is he"?

Office bitch: "NO, not if he did not participate".

Eli: "Well, I did not participate either as I was on a the conference call, keeping this place afloat. So what gives with my having to pay"?
