It's all I've used for about 4 years now. But it's hard to believe you had a perfectly fine experience if it was your first time. I hacked my face up for about 3 weeks before I really figured it out 
. Now I can fly without getting cuts. At first, I was not so lucky.

Alright so I'm ready to give this safety razor schtick a try.. my fiancé and I had a discussion yesterday about how much we spent on frickin disposable razors, so this seems like a good alternative.. can anyone recommend me a starter pack or something? She wants to know what to buy me for my birthday and I figured this would be a good idea

Well, I have used a straight razor before to shave. So I knew you dont apply pressure much at all & let the blade do the work. Plus, I watched YouTube tutorials on shaving with a safety razor. Last night was my first time using & not a nick on me at all.
