I am from Louisiana and I currently live in Texas but the two places now a days aren't comparable. Of course Louisiana will always be my home. The food and the family atmosphere is always something special.
Not sure what the OP's hate for Texas stems from.
Houston isn't the only place to live. Houston still isn't as bad as its made out to be, there quite a bit to do between professional sports, night life, galleria area. The Woodlands right up North is extremely nice place to live and it offers a lot between top notch schools to a nice mall and waterway with lots of different restaurants and stuff for families.
Its not the stereotypical redneck/ mexcian overflowed dump wasteland. Some areas are definitely not the best but there are a lot of nice places to raise a family. Better job opportunities, better schools, better infrastructure.
