I think Fred's is doing fine considering my parents drank there 25 years ago

Since they can't serve beer and alcohol, and dont serve food, can they remain open and play their shitty (but awesome) iTunes playlist ?!

I'm sure they get it cheaper since they buy in bulk, but it's still extremely expensive to give away for free.

Crown is about $20--$22 per fifth retail. Let's assume they get it at $15 a bottle whole sale.

At that rate, and $10 per cover, Fred's doesn't start losing money on pure inventory unless each person drinks over a fifth and a half of whiskey in a 2 hour period.

The cost per bottle has nothing to do with what you pay retail for it. It's based on how much they order at once. It's 34 dollars a bottle through BR distributors before bulk savings.

Even still making no profit on a 15 dollar bottle of liquor will kill a bar. Liquor profit margins make and break you.

I hate the fact the Caterie burned down... that was my home Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday

Apparently the 34 number I was quoting was for the specialty flavors. It's around 26 a bottle for the bar I was at. I'll own up to that frick up.

There's still no way they are actually giving people straight crown

Why do y'all think it's impossible for a bar to occasionally bust out some crown during free drinks? Bar tenders hook up good tippers and friends, it's really not difficult to imagine

Free drinks is to get people there. They spend money after 10pm and come back cause they had a good time.

It's not about making profit on those 2 hours. Its about getting it from 10-2 afterward.

This is the same thing cable companies do with 1 yr rates, its the same thing grocery stores do with certain items to get people there. Its the same thing Circle K does with $0.75 soft drinks to get people to buy other stuff. You can lower markups on specific times or items to get people to buy other stuff at higher markups.

Yeah, the mark-up on alcohol is ridiculous. A couple of hours a week to keep a crowd seems like an okay investment. It's not like they're back there handing out Johnny Walker on the rocks. It's fricking crown. The only people who think that's "premium" are broke dick college kids.

I never said that they don't do it for certain people. I said that's likely what happened to the guy earlier who said his bartender friend gave him some as a straight shot.

I just don't buy that they are doing that for the hundreds of people that come thru during that period

I fully understand that and have said that in this thread. But it's a lot easier to do with cheaper shite than it is for top shelf. If you're telling me most every bar is doing it with only cheap liquor and Fred's is doing the entire bar with the same price, something is up.

Plus I've tasted these drinks first hand, watered down AF

Should have been minding the store better rather than playing pocket pool in front of Betty.

Yea I know some of the places would only do well drinks for free drinks. None did import/craft beer that wasn't on tap. Freds would serve mixed call drinks but I rarely saw shots outside of fireball served. I do know if I asked for a drink on the rocks they would only serve a double shot in a glass with ice and with longish lines that wasnt worth my time.
