A cheaper option that still has S pen capabilities would be the Galaxy Tab A 10", but I don't know enough about that to offer any advice.

You could also get the last gen iPad pro with pencil to keep it slightly cheaper than the S3. I think there's a bundle on Amazon for that.

Here is the older iPad pro/pencil bundle. Not a bad deal. Going to go up with storage options though.
