1987 was an extreme outlier in terms of offense in MLB. Ryan lead the NL with a 2.76 ERA. 3.03 was 2nd, 3.06 3rd. Gooden was 5 th at 3.21 by contrast in 86 Mike Scott led NL 2.22, 2.76?would have be 4th, 7th was 2.92. In 88 2.18 lead NL, 2.76 doesn't make the top 10. It's back half of top 10 in 85 and 89 as well.

And the 87 Astros were 76-86, actually 3rd in NL West, not good but not like say the 2011-2013 Astros

Had absolutely no run support that year. I remember it well being a longsuffering Astros fan.
