Wasn't ticky-tack, Slaughter didn't even touch the bag.

It was the right call but Slaughter sliding on his right side on the outside of the bag made it look worse than it actually was. If he slides on his left side, but still to the outside, he was close enough to bear hug the bag and it wouldn't have been so obvious.

I honestly cant believe a person who watched that replay would ever conclude it was a bad call. He wasn't sliding in the basepath, obviously went out of his way to hit the guy, and as you said, seemed to have no interest in the base itself.

I loved when the UF player stuck his bat out to bunt and didn't pull it back. the ump called it a ball
