I do trust the coaches judgement on these kids

But is anyone slightly concerned with this class? I understand not to star gaze to an extent, but we have very few top recruits committed and this class is filling up rather fast. I know there's going to be a few diamonds in the rough that these recruiting sites do miss, but I'm pretty certain it won't be our whole class and I'm positive not all these kids are going to jump 200+ spots in the rankings.
People bring up Clemson and other teams still winning a championship with low ranked classes. But let's be real here the odds are ridiculously high and I would like to not base our chances on that every year. My main question Is there really a need to accept this many verbals so early in the process when most of these kids only have a few offers and we still have plenty of big fish on the board? What kept Les Miles competetive over the years was the ability to bring in top talent. We likely don't have the greatest head coach in the SEC let alone the whole NCAA (no it's not an insult), So I would feel a little more comfortable if we reeled in the best athletes possible.
Downvote away but you are lying to yourself if you are not one bit concerned. I don't want to ever see LSU go through medicocricity

Totally agree.Seems like these coaches are banking on potential but alot of these guys are under the radar for sure.definitely running out of spots for the big fish which makes me nervous.

A bunch of 3 stars, it's true. But I trust the "process". Every year we have a few early 3-star commits who magically end up signing with TCU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Etc...when we bring in bigger fish. Simple... the ones that continue to develop stay on board until Signing Day. The ones that don't start "looking around"

It is obvious that Coach O is approaching recruiting differently.
I wonder when the class is getting full, whether Coach O would accept more highly rated recruits and "process" commits like Saban.
I wonder also if the change in recruiting practice is to make a point especially to in-state recruits that if you wait, the ship will have sailed. Coaches are people who have families. Who wouldn't want to see some closure to their hard work early?
I also wonder if the coaches (many quite new to LSU) want to make the point that they can recruit differently and be just as, or even more successful than when Miles was running the show.

I try not to star gaze as well, but this is a lot of 3 star guys. There aren't that many diamonds in the rough. I like Curry and Provens film, and wonder why they are rated so low. I hate to say the "A" word, but Alabama hasn't built there dynasty with 3 star recruits.

This is making me nervous. Seems like alot of the offers are coming at the LSU camps. Nothing wrong with that but its not the big fish its the under the radar guys. There's a chance these guys could become All-stars their senior like K'Lavon Chaisson but a lot of maybes especilly when some of the big fish have been stars since their freshman year. I mean we know raymond will bring in top 5 DB class ,as usual, but the other positions need to be upgraded ,with top talent,as well to keep LSU competing with top schools

Just remember we are bringing in 3 good transfers next year as well

I would imagine half way through the fall at least 3-4 players get upgraded to 4stars, a few decommit and we add a few 4 stars. Surtain will likely sign with us and maybe Marshall if he sees Canada's offense fits him and is productive. There will be other big names that we expect and some we didn't.
Way too early to get hung up on the current class. It will change significantly before its done.

Don't expect all these kids to be in school at LSU in 2018.

You think some will bounce??

This class will be ranked around 15 when it is said and done. Which will be around 6-7th best in the SEC. Not very good. The gap appears to be widening between Bama and LSU. Coach O is defintley not off to a hot start on recuriting. So far, Les Miles was much better at recuriting. It's like Coach O's recuriting mentality is still at Ole Miss or something. He's taking every three star player he can get his hands on instead of being very selective and getting the absolute best recruits out there which are 4 and 5 star players.

I do. I think the staff is accepting more offers but will have to make some hard choices on NSD.

Totally agree. This is Lsu. We should be in the top 5 nationally every year recruiting, not 5th or worse in the SEC.
I thought Orgeron was a top notch recruiter? He needs to sell the program to the top dawgs, not just every decent 3 star that does well in camp

The negatigers on here need to chill out. We currently have the #3 rated class in the entire country and #1 in the SEC.

I must say I am surprised at how fast they are filling up this class. I agree with y'all, the last 3 posters in that they should be trying to get the best at this stage instead of continuing to sign, well, I'm sorry, they aren't signing anyone. Lol I mean grant verbal commits to a lot of these lesser rated players even though I think some of these kid should be rated higher. This class is just about filled, I'm shocked.

It's rated that high because it's early, man. And no one is getting carried away, we're just having a conversation about this, so you chill out ! Alabama as usual will come flying past everybody once Saban hits the gas pedal on recruiting, don't worry.

People can try to spin it anyway they want but the bottom line is talent wins. Of course you find diamond in the roughs here and there but the four and five stars are normally the deciding factor in making your program compete for championships.

Tubu, you are forgetting that a lot of these kids are 3 stars because the recruiting analysts aren't able to evaluate everybody. Now that they have been recruited by the flagship university, the spotlight is on and the analysts will take a closer look. After that, half of these kids will be 4 and 5 stars.
