This is what bothers me- if the POTUS elect (or sitting pres based on timing) knows the Russian allegations are BS, not only would he be well within his rights to request a public statement of such, but as POTUS he should demand it. Trust in our entire political system is being challenged. The POTUS has a duty to stop that from happening.

The reason these administrators decline to comment in these situations is that making public statements about such investigations is that it burdens them with an obligation to make a public statement to the contrary should facts change. We saw the folly of making these statements with Jim Comey in the Hillary Clinton investigation.
