Analytics play a far larger role in player personnel than someone who has actually played the game. You think NFL scouts aren't qualified to seek out the best players because they werent All Pro? You sound bitter AF

Well ok. No one here really knows the depth of Billups' basketball acumen. For all anyone here knows he could have a profound understanding of advanced metrics and how to apply them to player personnel decisions.

Having said that, there is something to be said for the special insight a former player brings to the front office. But I agree that it's only a part of what could make a great GM.

Even then there is virtually no way he has deep knowledge of how salary cap works, how to sign players effectively while over the cap, how to manage expenses of other staff, ect., ect. I have high level business education and experience and I would need training and to work in an orginization to obtain the proper knowledge to run something like an NBA franchise effectively.

This is like hiring someone straight out of school to be the CFO of a company. It doesn't matter if they went to Harvard, they still don't know how to run an entire organization.
