Is it even worth it for like a $600 budget? $50 screen and $550 projector? This is not my main TV watching location. I have a nice 65" in the living room where we mostly watch.

Depends on what projector you are talking about and what your expectations are for the setup.

I have a projector that I bought for $300 that I use for night time sports watching outdoors and it has been great... Don't expect to watch anything during the day or without a pitch black room, but you can definitely get away with a lower end projector for occasional watching.
